Kibo

Dallas, Texas

Kibo’s name is appropriated from the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest peak on the African continent. The e-commerce firm, part of the Vista Equities portfolio, wanted a fun, energy-filled space. A bold yellow wall above the reception desk greets guests. The stone desk with its many striated layers symbolizes the many steps and plateaus that must be climbed to reach the pinnacle of business and life.

Kibo wanted a space that united their diverse team. We created a simple open plan with bench seating so that everyone has a view of the skyline. The rhythm of the plan allows for breaks in the open seating accentuated by ceiling “clouds” over collaborative zones – in Kibo’s parlance, “The Plaza” and “Think Spaces.” The ceiling features are painted bold Kibo yellow and add a pop of color to the space. Large expanses of white-board wall covering allow for spontaneous collaboration. All of the finish materials are locally sourced and used in their raw and natural states to evoke the rawness of the mountain landscape.
