Southern Methodist University - Sigma Phi Epsilon

Dallas, Texas

Southern Methodist University, the Sigma Phi Epsilon Housing Corporation, and the Texas Upsilon Chapter of SigEp engaged BOKA Powell to renovate and expand the existing fraternity house on the SMU campus. The original 1920’s-era house was once home to the university’s president. The scope of work involved adding a 3,000 SF two-story addition onto the existing structure, including a new chapter meeting room, an expanded dining facility, workout room, and six new bedrooms and a bathroom to comfortably accommodate a total of 22 residents. The ground floor plan was designed to accommodate the future addition of an elevator. A separate exterior street entrance directly into the chapter meeting room allowed entry into the building without disturbing students in the house’s study rooms. The remainder of the existing house received new interior and exterior finishes, furniture, HVAC, fire protection upgrades and exterior landscaping improvements.
