Texas A&M University Kingsville - Lucio Hall

Kingsville, Texas

The first residence hall to be built on the Texas A&M University at Kingsville campus in nearly 40 years, BOKA Powell designed the 630-bed student housing facility to consist of three-and four-story buildings that comprise several courtyards.

Built in the campus’ traditional mission style, the building includes two- and four-bedroom suites with one or two bathrooms, depending on the design, a living room, and a kitchenette. The living-and-learning environment has study labs, a large lounge, meeting rooms, wireless internet, a full kitchen for student use, laundry facilities, and resident-advisor (RA) apartments.

The dining-and-conference-center building serves all of the new residential village complex. The second phase of the development is the 300-bed Honors College Residence Hall, with administrative offices for the dean’s office and additional residence-life offices.

The design includes a large, exterior patio area for college events and a great room and kitchen, which open onto the patio. Phase II has accents of Spanish provincial tiles and colors, which draw on the heritage of the south Texas region. Phase III includes a swimming pool adjacent to the great room and exterior patio, which provides a continuous flow between spaces.

Among the auxiliary areas included in each phase are resident advisor (RA) living quarters, multiple study rooms, lounge and meeting areas, and residence-life offices and varied amenities such as wireless internet access, a fitness center and laundry facilities.
