Arlington, Texas
The University of Texas at Arlington engaged BOKA Powell to deliver the Kalpana Chawla Hall student housing development in 2004 as a second phase to Arlington Hall, a project BOKA Powell completed in 2000.
The 149,000 square foot living/learning community houses 430 students and features study rooms, laundry facilities, meeting rooms, student computer lounges and faculty offices. The attached Great Room features a kitchen, game room, sitting/gathering areas and TV lounge.
BOKA Powell provided architectural services through construction administration. The building is named for astronaut and UTA alumna Kalpana Chawla who died in the breakup of the Space Shuttle Columbia over North Texas in 2003. A remembrance wall tells Chawla’s remarkable life story and includes a time capsule to be opened in 2034.
